More on Cooper's speech

Seriously, I'd like to bottle it up. It is A-dorable.

"MaMa, today at tool we have a pahty in my casswoom. And on the cahpet we had a nata with candy and fuut nax and waisins and tatebohds. I got a yot of tatebohds I think so. Maxth. Maxth. You yike my tatebohds? You want one of my tatebohds?"

words he uses(that we're impressed by): humongous, enormous, entire, gohs (gross), weird (comes out kind of funny)

This morning he had a huge conversation about his cats and taking them to tool. It was so dang cute. Mommy and I just look at each other with that Awwwwwwww kind of look.

Positive

What's with August? All three of our normally-not-sick-kids have had some kind of illness. Yesterday, Max "passed" the Rapid Strep test. Let's hope we caught it before we have to send strep throat through the house. . .

Today is Grandpa's 70th birthday!! Happy Birthday Grandpa!

This is Max's last week of preschool/daycare! Next week Max will start Kindergarten, and Cooper will move up to the 3 year old room.

The boys played football after watching about 15 minutes on Friday and 15 minutes on Saturday. Max donned his Hockey/LaCrosse helmet and Cooper wore his bike helmet. Quite the site.

What's with the obession?

Maybe it's because I'm a girl I just don't understand, but what is with little boys obsession with all things crash-boom-hit-bang-capture-kill ???

To me this screams: time-to-call-my-sister-and-have-a-conversation! She's the perfect resource. She 1) has a son 2) is an awesome parent

But seriously, at home, Max is not exposed to the life of the super-hero other than a couple of books, so I know that he gets most of what he gets from school friends. It's quite the quandry really. Do you willingly introduce this subject matter, etc to your kids so that you are the one in control of the information--even though you don't like it? Or, do you let your kid be educated by their 5 year old friends and spend your days and nights trying to de-program them?

Our last trip to T.arget included Max "needing" Sp!derman: swimming goggles, diving toys, backpack, skateboard, thermos, lunchbag, ETC! He ended up with a plain red ruler and still declared it to be a Sp!derman ruler.

There must be tons of Moms out there that don't really like the whole Sp!derman deal, but they must be much nicer than us, because we just won't get it for him! It's wearing on us though, he's bound to crack us. And seriously, just like other topics that will come up in life, I would much rather us be the one he learns his information from. . . maybe I'll post and update later on this topic. . .

More

He's(Max) getting bolder now and just using the word "stupid" without changing it. He must know it's a button-pusher for us and boy is it.

One other expression is "shocks" and he uses it in a ahh shucks sort of way. We'd be fine with shucks. . . It's actually hard to not laugh when he says it. Reminds me of a cross between Gomer Pile and Jethro Klampet. . .

Any opinions on "stupid" therapy? What's worked/not worked for you?

Passed

Now Ruby's sick.

As Max would say, "Barnit."

Sidenote:
Max learns a lot of negative vocabulary from school. He uses some of it at home. "what the heck?", "Darnit." We have told him that we would rather have him use different word choices. His logic---if I change the word or phrase a little bit, it'll be ok, and Mommy and MaMa might not notice. Hence, "Barnit" and "What the wowsers!"

Our own dictionary. . .

From the mouth of Cooper:

neckaween: nectarine

yittle: little
yike: like
yater: later
yook: look
yeave: leave
basically any word beginning with l can be replaced with a y

daguar: jaguar
dackson: jackson
j's can be replaced by d's

dahge: garage
dina: gina
same goes for g's

wooby: Ruby
wun: run
w's for r's

tool: school
day-dah-deeya: quesadilla
ithe teem: ice cream

Calls our friend Mark by his whole name, sounds like: Mahk Thellmer

Uses the word "why" instead of "because." If we ask a question he will answer for example: "Why I'm a big boy!" and it's a statement, not a question. He uses this all the time and it's one of the cutest things about his speech/communication.
Why I need it. Why I'm a puppy. Why, why, why.

Put me in coach. . .

Preschool is coming to a close for Max. Amazing. He has one more week of "regular" school, then we will beging the prep for Kindergarten. On the 17th of August, I will begin taking him to school at the time he will go when he's in Kindergarten, so that he can adjust to having longer days. That will be an interesting transition as transitions are kind of tough on him.

This week he finished up swimming lessons and T-ball(called Happy Bats). Yesterday when I picked him up from school, I just missed the ending of the game. His teacher told me she wished I would have been there to see him. Why? Because he insisted on wearing his hockey/lacrosse helmet out in the field--in case the ball would hit him. What a sight!

Amazed. . .

Ruby: can get herself up and down.

Cooper: attempts to pee like a puppy.

Maxwell: Last night I'll admit, I was trying to entice the boys up to the bath. I said, "if we take a quick bath tonight, we can have double-books!" I had moderate success. After bath when it was time to read our books. . .
Max: I want double-three books!
Me: What's that?
Max: Six!
Me: (wondering if it's a fluke or if I should be amazed. . .) What's double-two?
Max: Four.
Me: (really wondering if I should be amazed. . .) This is a tough one, what's double-four?
Max: (after a moment) Eight!
Me: (wow)
Max: And double-ten is twenty!

So is this addition or multiplication? Either way, I'm blown away by my 5 year old.

What?

is up with my Asian friends? Have you noticed my comments?

Funny, scary and party tricks

Boy, I know it's been along time since I posted. Sorry kids.

Last weekend we headed to the lake to visit my sister and her family. We left Friday afternoon. On our way, we talked to Max about his day.

"What did you learn about today Max?"
Max: I learned about animals, and when they go away for a while. Did you know that animals vibrate? Yeah, vibrating is a really good thing. Lots of animals vibrate.
And on and on.
We managed to only giggle to ourselves and he didn't notice.

The weekend was marvelous excluding Cooper coming down with something. He started spiking a fever Friday mid-night and the fever continued until just today. In fact, I'm not even sure that he's completely over it. Yesterday he was at his second doctor visit for this illness. It was a rough one. They did a strep culture. The rapid test came back negative. We're hoping the 24-hour culture will come back positive as it will give us something treatable. . . He also had to have blood drawn to run a battery of lab tests. One possibility was Kawasaki's Disease. Scary. He went back in for a recheck this morning and things are actually looking better for him. Although his throat is still pretty nasty-looking.

And for the party tricks? Ruby will high-five, clap and wave! All soooooo adorable!
